Rick and Valerie are living the empty-nester dream with a home on the Wisconsin River.
We sold our house in McFarland, became empty nesters and bought our dream house on the Wisconsin River.
We wanted to go with UW Credit Union for our new mortgage but were promised an easy process with our old mortgage servicer, since they had all our information on file. But the process was painful. It was awful. We missed our closing date and had to rent our house. Later, when the mortgage company filed for Chapter 11, we’d had enough. We were ready to go with UWCU.
We still have two kids in college. We wanted to pay off our house quickly but didn’t want to overstretch ourselves, knowing we have these other big financial obligations to help pay for college.
After talking to our mortgage loan officer, we went with an ARM. For people in our demographic, who might have a lot of equity in their home, who want to pay off their loan quickly, who might have kids in college, an ARM like this is a no-brainer.
We’re saving $200 a month with our new mortgage. Maybe that doesn’t sound like a lot to some people, but for us, with kids in college, it makes a huge difference. We had a decent rate before but were able to get an even better rate. Even with the closing costs, we’ll be saving money.
All our other accounts are with UWCU, so we’re super fans anyway. The whole process was easy and we were super happy. Everything was done online and went through smoothly. We’ve had underwriting problems with other mortgage companies in the past, but we had no problems with UWCU, and everyone was so communicative. We know too that if we ever have concerns, we can talk to a real person.
About six months ago, we got a home equity loan with UWCU to pay off some debt and do some remodeling. We’ve updated the 60s décor and fixed up bedrooms for when our kids come home. We’ve already gained a significant amount of equity. Our hard work is paying off.
