Teammates in Every Stage of Life
Former Badger running back, Jonathan Taylor, finds his financial footing with UWCU.
My journey with UW Credit Union began when I was a freshman in college at UW-Madison. Like any other freshman, I was beyond excited for this new chapter in my life. I was finally out on my own and eager to prove myself both in the classroom and on the football field, where I was recruited to play as a running back for the Badgers.
But I’ll be honest…I felt a little clueless at times, too.
Before coming to campus, I never had a bank account. I didn’t know anything about money (other than how to spend it at the Terrace) and I didn’t know anything about the financial steps I should be thinking about, like building credit and budgeting. Honestly, I was a little worried I’d walk into a bank and feel judged for my lack of financial history.
Luckily, my college advisor told me about UW Credit Union. They have branches all over campus, which is super convenient, but what won me over was finding out they have a branch right across the street from Camp Randall. That was perfect for me!
I walked in that branch (shoutout to the Monroe Street team!) and everyone there was super nice and friendly. I never felt judged for not knowing much about money; in fact, it was total opposite. They sat me down, walked me through their account options and gave a lot of thought to which account would fit my needs. I left the branch that day with an account, a debit card and a boatload of confidence that I made the right decision.
Ever since that day, UW Credit Union has been there for me. I continued to frequent the Monroe Street branch and got to know the team over the years – so much so that when I walked in, they often knew what I was there for! (Not to throw shade on the big banks, but I know I couldn’t get that personal relationship anywhere else.)
My life has changed a lot since I opened my UWCU account. I slowly started making more money and learned how to make the most of it. I opened additional accounts and built up a solid credit history. And when my career took me away from Madison, I knew I could still count on UWCU to be with me every step of the way.
No matter who you are or where you are in your financial journey, trust me, UW Credit Union has your back.
