Finding Financial Independence
The 2022 Miss Milwaukee found convenience and financial confidence by joining UW Credit Union.
Like a lot of young people, college marked the first time I was stepping out on my own and becoming independent. In my case, I came to UW-Green Bay with a bank account my mom had access to, but I was ready for a bank account of my own. When I learned UW Credit Union had a branch inside the UW-Green Bay University Union, I thought to myself, “Perfect! That’ll be really convenient.”
Looking back, UW Credit Union was the right place to start my financial journey. Because students typically don’t have credit history, a lot of places are leery to give you a credit card. But UWCU gave me my first credit card and taught me how to use and build credit. They truly care about young adults who are ready for the next step, and they care about getting you off on the right financial foot.
After graduation, I moved back to Milwaukee – and luckily, there are branches basically everywhere, so access is never an issue. I also enjoy using the Mobile App to check in on my finances; the functionality is great.
As Miss Milwaukee, I believe being actively involved in the community you’re part of is super important. I appreciate that UW Credit Union feels the same and shows it in small and big ways. For example, in 2021 they gave $1.5 million to support racial equity in Madison and Milwaukee. Seeing UWCU taking the initiative to be actively involved in the community they’re serving says a lot about the company and the brand mission overall.
Overall, I’m glad I made the decision to join UW Credit Union, and you will be, too.
